Garden Description:
Holy Rood House is a therapeutic retreat centre in Thirsk. Its large garden offers a quiet, gentle healing space which includes a labyrinth, orchard, goats and a walled garden with a pond. A chapel within a smaller garden – the Chapel of Sophia – is a quiet space for prayer. The house offers accommodation and those that stay in our new access suite can use the French doors into the garden. The community connects this important ecological space to our theology, liturgy and prayer life. The plants, trees and seasons are used creatively for the workshops, retreats and healing for the guests. The fruit, vegetables and herbs grown are used in the kitchen for guest meals.
Many guests find this space helpful in their ongoing healing process: ‘I came to Holy Rood House not knowing what to expect, uncertain of what I would find, I found beautiful gardens of herbs and flowers, with gorgeous scents when touched, a quiet peaceful atmosphere…’ Quote from a guest
The garden is open all year and there will be specific seasonal days of opening for the Quiet Garden Movement.
