Overlooking the Clyde estuary and sheltered by ancient Oak trees, this garden is the work of Chris and Michaela Goan, who run their art business from the same place. Do not expect pristine lawns or English-style flower beds – we are in the heart of the old Scottish temperate rainforest after all – rather, this garden has grown out of a determination to make a different kind of life based on creativity and permaculture.
The space begins with vegetable growing areas, chicken pen and polytunnels, then flows down into an oak wood, containing a food forest enclosure. We are in red squirrel territory here and you may well spot their activity along with a host of other wildlife. Along the way you may encounter fragments of poetry or pieces of art that have escaped the studio. You will need good boots/wellies!
