Garden Description:Hosted by Tessa and Mark Holland the Quiet Garden is open once a month all year except August.
Wild Fortune is a spacious family home with 2/3 acre of mixed woodland garden (complete with bracken, brambles and weeds), backing onto the woods of Sandgate Park, a conservation area and site of special scientific interest (SSSI) http://www.sandgate-conservation.org.uk/. We opened as a Quiet Garden in 1999 and the story and vision of the garden is on our blogsite.
The garden has several areas for both walking and sitting meditation; a spiral prayer walk, wildlife pond, a Japanese themed area and “The Shed”, a simple prayer space for one person. Throughout the garden there are also a number of benches and arbours providing secluded seating and reflective space. The lounge and second sitting room in the house and the prayer loft space above the garage are also made available during Quiet Garden mornings, with refreshments available in the kitchen on a self-serve basis. There is a downstairs toilet. Numbers are restricted to a maximum of 8 at a time to allow for spaciousness and quiet, so booking is essential.
The garden is open monthly through the year, except August. Each morning begins with a time of welcome and introduction, followed by personal space in the house, garden or woods and concluding with an opportunity for shared insight and closing prayer.
We are rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition with a rhythm of life of contemplative, creative and compassionate practice and Tessa is an Anglican priest licensed as a contemplative in the Diocese of Chichester. Our ministry is one of prayer and hospitality to all people.
