ST MAG

A hidden gem in the heart of Glastonbury, this small award winning garden is part of St Margaret’s Chapel and the Royal Magdalene Almshouse (founded in 1250). The garden is not just here by planning and design, but also by the love, generosity, time given and the perseverance of the Volunteers, Trustees and Benefactors of the garden. Our garden is small and is situated on the foundations of a former row of medieval almshouses. The stone perimeter clearly shows the outline and there are some steps into former doorways. The garden was first installed in 1960 but has only been carefully managed since the restoration of the site in 2012.The garden has received local In Bloom awards every year and in 2024 and 2025 it was awarded Gold by the RHS for being the best garden in the Heritage and Tourism category in the South West.
