Garden Description:
This is a small Prayer Garden designed and created during lockdown by Daniel Verrall. It was a derelict plot behind the Church but Daniel was studing Horticulture and had the vision of developing the plot into a Prayer garden; a quiet and peaceful place for people to come to and sense the peace and presence of God. There are mature trees (eg fig, hazel, rowan, silver birch and buddleia)but much of the planting is more recent and includes beautiful sweet peas, verbena, dianthus, digiplexus, clematis, willow, dogwood, lilies, lavender, irises in a fish pond and an olive tree. Daniel planted 4 juniper treees which are still young and small. Two years ago Daniel obtained sea lavender seed from Ukraine and the resulting plants make a beautiful show, as well as being a constant reminder to pray for Ukraine. Daniel calls it his "sanctuary", and it has been so therapeutic for him during lockdown as he has Aspergers. He is never happier than when he is in the garden, mowing the lawn, and doing general maintenance of the garden. There is also a cairn housing rocks on which are written the fruits of the Spirit and a magnificent sculpture of "Praying Hands" that Daniel's Grandad recycled from wood salvaged from an old shed that was removed from the garden. We also have a herb garden.
The Church has services and prayer groups in the garden during the summer. There is a prayer box in which visitors can put prayer requests, so that the church members can prayerfully respond. Daniel is eager to share his labour of love and the peace that it brings with all who would like to come. Groups of up to 15 people would be welcome to visit. There are toilet and parking facilities on site along with disabled access to the garden/facilities.
