Northampton Burial Ground was transformed from a wilderness of mainly grass, studded with crooked headstones and overgrown shrubs and trees, into a beautiful garden, complete with wooden benches on which to sit and contemplate the newly planted flowers, trees and bushes. With curving gravel paths and a central stone bird bath surrounded by lavender bushes it has become a haven in the centre of busy Northampton town. Friends often sit there before and after Meeting for Worship and other meetings. Members of the public use it, some knowing of its existence, others finding it by accident. Workers in the centre of Northampton eat their lunches there. Everyone remarks on the peace and tranquillity it provides.
