The front garden is then divided into garden rooms by hornbeam hedges either side of a pleached hornbeam walk which is aligned on the church tower. The garden rooms offer places of stillness to sit. The lower side of the garden has a shrub walk that surrounds an oval hornbeam-hedged garden room which provides a quiet place, and in summer a warm place, to sit and think. The ‘Peony Pavilion’ in the peony garden offers a place to gather inside for sessions of prayer and reflection or for refreshments. The garden is ridiculously ambitious for one person to take care of so is never as tidy as it should be.
